Congratulations on your new home! We’re sure you’ll make great memories there and want to help make the day you move in exciting rather than stressful. That’s why we’ve pulled together our top tips for moving day to help you enjoy the entire experience.
Pack an essentials bag
Having an essentials bag packed, with a change of clothes, toiletries and medication, your pjs, tea and coffee, moving documents, phone chargers – anything you can’t live without in your day-to-day. Keep this in your car so it doesn’t get missed up with the rest of the moving boxes.
Dress for success
You don’t see professional movers wearing flipflops – with good reason. Make sure your outfit for the day is comfy and protective.
Occupy your dependents
On the day you’re moving, things will be a lot less stressful if you don’t have to worry about entertaining your young children or keeping your pets safe. Ahead of moving day, arrange alternative care for your dependents and drop them off as early as possible on moving day so you can focus 100% of your attention on moving.
Pack a cool bag
When you’re rushing from place to place, it’s easy to forget to eat and drink enough. You definitely don’t want to get hangry on your moving day, so having a cooler with drinks and healthy snacks will help get you through.
Checklists
If you’re anything like us, you’ll want to create a checklist of everything that needs to happen on the day. Write this well in advance of your moving date so you can be sure you’ve thought of everything that needs doing.
Have a cleaning box
Make sure you’ve got cleaning supplies ready for the old house and new one. Give everything a final go over before you leave the old place for the last time (this also makes sure you’ve left nothing behind) and in the new place before you start moving things in. It’s also a great idea to have a few essential tools like drills and screwdrivers in here too.
Fully charge your phone the day before
Having plenty of charge in your phone helps take some of the stress out of moving day. You’ll have plenty of people to coordinate on the day, so make sure your phone is ready to message or call whenever you need it.
Colour code your boxes
Assign each room in your new house a colour and colour code your boxes accordingly. That makes it much easier to unload and unpack once you arrive. You can pop the boxes in each room and work your way to them in priority order. This saves you opening each box to see what’s inside.
Have the perfect van
If you’re moving yourself, having the perfect moving van is a must! Our vehicle hire experts are on hand to discuss your move and get you booked into the perfect van for your belongings.
